After many years of supporting postpartum families and mentoring doulas in Ireland, Jen and Mary are excited to offer DoulaCare postpartum doula training - specifically geared to working with families in Ireland.

We are the leading experts in Postpartum Doula care in Ireland and we want to offer our expertise to give you the information and skills you will need to provide postpartum doula services to families that need your support. This is one of the first ever doula trainings that has been developed in Ireland and our training offers you the opportunity to receive certification from an Irish organisation that is familiar with what families in Ireland look for in postpartum doula support.

We offer practical support in both working as a doula and in developing your business.

We help you to understand the role of a doula and nurture and support you as you walk this exciting path.

You are unique, so the doula support you offer will be unique. We want to guide you on this journey - and are aware that as adult learners, you already come to this with a wealth of knowledge and experience and a huge amount of passion.

Our job is to help build your confidence and nurture your education so you can practise as a doula in a way that suits your life and family circumstances.

Both Mary and Jen bring their vast experience as doulas - but also share their knowledge as successful business owners. They both started off as solo doulas and then joined forces to build DoulaCare and want to share this experience and knowledge with you.

This profession is growing. Mary first trained as a doula in 2006 and no one knew what a doula was. Now thankfully, as more and more families choose to work with doulas this has changed. People are actively seeking out doula support and both Mary and Jen are passionate about building the doula profession and facilitating those with a passion for this work.

We have developed policies and procedures needed to run a professional business so that we offer the Gold Standard of professionalism to our clients. We want to support you to offer the same to your clients and feel fully prepared to offer this fulfilling and life-changing support to the families you work with.

We are committed to offering you the most up-to-date and evidence-based research so you can build your confidence and professionally develop your skills and knowledge as a postpartum doula.

During your postpartum doula training, you will learn how to be a professional doula. Our Postpartum training will cover evidence-based information about the benefits of doula support, how to hold space for new parents when they bring home a new baby or babies, the impact of doula support on a family, practical hands-on techniques, as well as the steps to begin a career as a postpartum doula.

There will also be a monthly Zoom session for the first 3 months after your training. These will be held on Wednesday mornings.. This brings your total live training hours to 28 hours.

We are committed to offering you the most up to date and evidence based research so you can build your confidence and professionally develop your skills and knowledge as a Postpartum doula.

During your postpartum doula training you will learn how to offer a professional doula service to your clients. We will cover a wide range of topics designed to build your confidence and enable you to being to practise once your course has finished. We will cover topics such as learning how to source evidence based information, the benefits of doula support, how to hold space for new parents, the impact of doula support to a family, practical hands on techniques and the stopes to being a career as a postpartum doula in Ireland.

Over the course of the 5 days you will be offered plenty of time for group discussion and we facilitate numerous group sessions which allow you to interact and learn from others. There will be lots of time allocated to exploring ideas, asking questions and nurturing you during the 5 sessions of training.

We are a family-friendly organisation and one of the benefits of doing the course from home is that it allows you to attend with your baby if needed.

Once you are finished with your training and have submitted any required paperwork you will be considered fully trained and be able to offer your services as a Postpartum doula to families in your community.

  • Non-Judgmental Support (including the unconscious bias)

  • Effective Communication & Language skills

  • Supporting parents through loss and/or trauma

  • Physical & Emotional recovery from birth

  • Postpartum Relationships - family dynamics and how the doula fits in

  • Feeding: Breast, Expressing, Bottle & Formula

  • Infant Care techniques

  • Postnatal Mood & Anxiety Disorders

  • Supporting sick and/or preterm babies

  • Working with multiples

  • The Doula Interview

  • Referral pathways and scope of practice

  • How to get started with your own doula business

This workshop must be attended in its entirety to acquire certification.

If you wish to be Garda Vetted this can be processed through DoulaCare for a fee of €50  - this is only available to those who are certified with the DoulaCare Institute or active members of the DoulaCare Ireland Agency. (Please note, if you are working with small babies or children in Ireland it is a legal requirement that you are Garda Vetted). 

You do not need to join DoulaCare Ireland Doula Agency in order to take this training (you can work as an independent doula with our agreed level of mentorship and support). Taking our training does not guarantee you a position in our agency. We have a strict application process and, therefore, we only choose those who are the right fit for our team.
